Garston Veterinary Group is an RCVS Practice Standards Scheme–accredited small-animal practice for domestic pets, with evidence of investment in facilities (a new CT machine is mentioned by a reviewer) and a role as a veterinary nurse training facility. Reviews describe routine preventive care (annual vaccination boosters), surgical care (a cat having “a couple of operations” and follow-up check-ups), and overnight hospitalisation. Experiences reported are mixed: many owners describe calm, clean facilities and respectful support around end-of-life requests (including keepsakes such as paw prints), while a smaller number report serious concerns about out-of-hours communication and inpatient comfort.

Very caring and professional. Quick to react to our concerns and value for money. Our beloved Cat Pepper has had a couple of operations and has been looked after with such love and care that he doesn’t worry when we take him back for check ups. Brilliant practice.

Today was our first appointment with Garstons for my dog's annual vaccination booster. I opted for The Wellness plan which is a great way to save a little on fees but also the best way to make sure your pet is on track with all their check ups, vaccinations and treatments. The practice is run by a very warm and highly skilled team of vets and receptionists. The waiting room is beautiful and calm. Highly recommend Garstons! Thanks for being so lovely with Luna.

Garston Vets Frome is by far the best practice I have visited in 30 years of having pets. The staff are consistently kind, knowledgeable and genuinely care about animals. My dog and rabbit are always treated with compassion and professionalism. The clinic is spotless yet welcoming, with a calming atmosphere that puts both pets and owners at ease. It feels like a high end facility without being cold or clinical. I also appreciate how well the team is supported. Everyone seems happy in their roles, which speaks volumes about the leadership and work culture. Seeing updates on staff training and the new CT machine shows how committed Garston is to improving care. It is reassuring to know my payments support ongoing improvements in treatment and standards. Highly recommended. I would give 10 stars if I could! — Emma, Dottie 🐕 and Alice 🐇

One-star review – Very disappointing experience after 7 years as a loyal client I had to hospitalise my cat for one night at Garston Vets due to a throat infection. The total cost came to an outrageous £885.83 for a single overnight stay and antibiotic treatment. When I went to pick him up, I found him soaked in his own urine inside his carrier – clearly distressed and left in that state for hours. The urine was even leaking through the box when the staff handed him over. For almost £1000, the least they could have done was place a complimentary absorbent pad or check on his comfort. We’ve been clients at Garston for over 7 years, and yet there was no sign of any goodwill, discount, or even basic consideration in this situation. This experience was both disappointing and upsetting, and I will now be looking for a new veterinary practice for my cat.

I phoned last night as my dog was dying. I wanted to know if there was anything I could do. I needed a compassionate voice and understanding. The vet called me back as it was out of hours (9pm). She was abrupt. Told me to bring her in even though she was dying and they would assess her. Mentioning the £160 just to see her. She was dying. She was a 2lb 12yr old chihuahua. We explained that we were not travelling 45 minutes if nothing could be done. We knew nothing could really be done but you panic and want reassurance that even though she was showing all the signs of respiratory failure/heart failure and her eyes had clouded over, that they could comfort you somehow. Instead, when I said my husband wanted to hold her in his arms till she passed… she CHUCKLED over the phone and said she would report this! I don’t know if she is severely emotionally stunted when it comes to compassion in times like this but it was the most brutal and cruel response we could have ever heard. Our baby died ten minutes later, in our arms, at home and not in a car on the way to see the wicked witch of the South West. I do not write negative reviews but her behaviour was absolutely atrocious and heartless. Go elsewhere if she is the usual out of hours vet. Void of empathy!

After our beautiful cat, Grace, passed away from terminal cancer, Garston Vets were understanding and respectful. They sent my husband and I a bereavement card, with a packet of wild seeds attached. So that we can scatter them, as a reminder of our loss. I also asked for paw prints and cutting of her fur, which they did, even putting her colours into separate vials (white, black & ginger). My cat box, towel and throw were also returned to us. The staff were brilliant, at this sad time. And for that reason, I am giving them a 5 star rating.
