Longmead Veterinary Surgery describes itself as an independent, vet-owned practice (serving clients since 1940) and an RCVS-accredited small animal practice. Based on its stated facilities and what clients mention, it appears set up for both routine care and more involved procedures, including keyhole surgery, advanced orthopaedics, and in-house hospitalisation with separate dog and cat wards (CT scanning is stated to be in-house at another surgery site).
From the latest reviews available, owners frequently describe clear explanations before procedures, aftercare guidance, and practical handling of tricky situations (for example, booking a reactive dog at a quieter time and keeping the appointment calm). There is also a contrasting account describing refusal to register a new pet due to practice capacity/criteria and a poor interaction with the practice manager.
From the clinic website summary and reviews, Longmead Veterinary Surgery offers or is described as providing
4.8 stars from 84 reviews. The comments available cover routine appointments (vaccinations/check-ups) through to surgery and dental treatment, plus one account focused on registration/customer-service issues. “”

One of the worst customer service Ive experience i have ever received from Jane ! The practice manager. We recently moved i to the area 3 months ago, and weve just found out that our frenchies pregnant. When Trying to register, it was explained that you cant belong to two vets and that doesn't meet thier criteria, since they are particularly busy and are carefully not to have to many patients just only use them for the one time. I suggested cancelling the other vets that is 1 hour and a half away and still continued to find an excuse that it wouldnt be accepted. Her whole outlook was very interesting and im completely confused by her and the service I have recieved. Whilst I can appreciate its a busy time of year, and that they only want to take on pets that this would be thier primary vets, she could of used more common sense. We have just recently moved here with buinsess that opporates 6 days a week, so it would of made sence to have canceled our old vets. Obviously its not the best thing to be driving all the way to southampton when the time comes.. I get that shes quite clearly trained to be very resilient, but she was loud, talked over me and very robotic in her responses. She showed no real care to me or our thoughts just that even if we canceled our old vets they wouldnt take her on, ( this was before any upset ). A very strange and confusing experience.

We were expecting major drama with our reactive rescue saluki as we had no idea how he was going to be with his vaccinations and check up. The reception team booked the appointment at a time when there were no other dogs booked in and Lyndsey was great with him when he came in. The vet was brilliant with him. Just really calm and understanding and it all went well. All in all a much better experience than we expected knowing how our dog can react. Fingers crossed he is as good when we go back in 4 weeks!!

# ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Exceptional Care at Longhead Vets I recently took my cat to Longhead Vets in Wincanton for spaying and microchipping, and I couldn't be happier with the experience. From the moment we walked in, the staff were incredibly welcoming and professional. The veterinary team clearly explained the procedures beforehand, which helped put my mind at ease. They were gentle and patient with my cat, who can be quite anxious at vet visits. The facilities were spotless and well-equipped, giving me complete confidence in their capabilities. The spaying and microchipping procedures went smoothly, and the aftercare instructions were thorough and easy to follow. My cat recovered beautifully, and the surgical site healed perfectly. The staff even followed up with a courtesy call to check how she was doing, which showed they genuinely care about their patients' wellbeing. What impressed me most was their compassionate approach - they treated my cat like she was their own. The pricing was fair and transparent with no hidden costs, and they were happy to answer all my questions without making me feel rushed. I would absolutely recommend Longhead Vets to anyone in the Wincanton area. They've earned a loyal customer in me, and I'll definitely be returning for all future veterinary needs. Thank you for taking such wonderful care of my furry family member! **Highly recommended for:** Professional service, compassionate care, excellent facilities, fair pricing, thorough aftercare support.

Exceptional care from all staff at Wincanton and Shaftesbury. Will never be able to thank vets Matt and Sacha enough for their wisdom and compassion that enabled Flora to live when it seemed all was lost. Thank you everyone.

First Time of attending Longmead Vets at Wincanton with Buddy our Collie and guess what we were late, due to all-sorts of traffic problems!! We rang their reception to tell of our woes and were greeted with a really friendly can do attitude from the receptionist who assured us that our appointment was not lost. On arrival at this modern spacious clinic our Vet was so nice , she did not rush us and was helpful in answering all our questions fully. What a great experience! We fully commend Longmead Vets Wincanton for their excellent customer service. Our custom will be ongoing from now on. Wally & Jackie Drain

Excellent vets. Can't fault them. I used them as a second opinion as my existing vet couldn't see what was wrong with my cat who wasn't eating. They immediately found the problem and operated on his infected gums and removed the infected teeth that day and effectively saved his life. We also used them on our dog for an endoscopic spay operation. Our dog was up and about that afternoon! It was fantastic. I definitely feel our pets are in good hands when they go to Longmead. Thank you.

Modern premises, plenty of free parking. Lovely helpful receptionist & the vet also answered questions not relating to our cats. He was equally gentle & listened & read about their treatment in France. The cats seemed quite relaxed too. We obtained a further stock of anti-inflammatory syrup. The same as the one we had in France which is cheaper both there & here than the previous one obtained from our old vets.So for me, they tick all the boxes.
