I would highly recommend James. My dog has been suffering from neuropathic pain for some time which I have been trying to address but have been struggling to find a solution. James took the time to really understand what was going on for my dog and to advise on best treatment options as well as explaining it in detail to me so that I understand the approach. Our dog Phoebe, a Saluki cross, was seen by Dr Hunt for ongoing pain management. She received a thorough clinical examination and acupuncture treatment. Potential further investigations were also discussed, and adjustments were made to her current medication plan to help make Phoebe more comfortable. We were able to make a direct claim for the consultation fee, and we also received a written prescription for the new medication, along with a comprehensive report, within 24 hours. The service was excellent, and Dr Hunt is a very kind, warm, and compassionate person. We can highly recommend him and his expertise.

James is an incredible vet and a true expert in pain management. He has been taking care of my dog, Daisy, and has completely transformed her comfort levels and happiness. It is so reassuring to have a specialist who knows exactly how to manage chronic pain safely and effectively.

Sophie had a Cruciate ligament operation in March 2025. I've been back to my own vet on numerous occasions since with her continuous lameness and told after physical examinations that there wasn't anything wrong. I was recommended The Complete Canine out at Bishops Tawton by my vet for maybe hydrotherapy. Between Vicki & Gemma at The Complete Canine we started hydrotherapy/laser therapy and hydrotherapy. Vicki mentioned that James was visiting in February, so I immediately booked in with him for a consultation. We have been seeing James on a weekly/monthly basis for acupuncture and his expertise. On Each visit James has examined Sophie and advised us on the way forward until we see him the following month. WOW what can I say..... Sophie has gone from being pretty much on 3 legs constantly to now only 4 months later practically nearly fully healed. She is so much happier in herself and loves seeing James. Think she likes the fact James lies on the floor with her and makes a fuss of her during acupuncture. James is an absolute whizz in his field and I am so grateful for what he has done for Sophie. We've gone from 5 minute lead walks, to nearly allowing her the freedom of a healthy dog. We can't wait to get out there on adventures together soon. I don't know where we would be if it wasn't for James. Thankyou

James is an outstanding vet, and we feel incredibly lucky to have him caring for our dogs who both have complex conditions. His dedication, kindness, compassion and exceptional expertise is giving them a level of comfort and quality of life we never thought possible. He is friendly, professional, thorough and patient, taking the time to explain everything clearly and offers advice whenever we need it. I would highly recommend James Hunt if you are at all concerned about your dog’s pain management or diagnosis. He is kind, approachable, knowledgable and professional. It is clear he puts dog welfare first including being very willing to adapt consultations to your dog’s needs and go at their pace. It is the best experience I have had in a veterinary/ clinical environment (both as a client and as a professional).

I took Oreo to see James last year. Oreo is my 11yo choccie cheeky Lab who has lots of issues and a brilliant support system with his vet, physio, ortho and hydrotherapist. I needed further help after developed some further ataxia (almost paralysed of his back legs) with neurologist not finding the reason to that and his physio or vet finding why he'd slowed down (apart from the neuro issue). James helped Oreo by introducing new pain meds. James is very friendly, his compassion and care is second to none. His knowledge is amazing and talked to me about different options and studies about them. Sometimes you find animal health practitioners that don't take the time to talk through the options properly. James is the opposite. And every visit we've had, I've come out with lots of knowledge and felt he heard the concerns and managed the expectations. I will always recommend seeing a pain specialist, and will always say like James! Oreo and I will always be grateful to James for all his help!!

Really great. Helpful, practical, well explained advice with reference to evidence. Felt that I was consulting an expert, which is such a relief in a world of confusing information about pain in dogs. Proper non slip floor and considerate handling of my dog a big bonus.

We took our dog to see Dr Hunt for a pain assessment. He had clearly reviewed all of of dog's notes in detail prior to our appointment. The appointment was thorough and we felt listened to. He treated our dog with care and gave us sensible advice. His write up was extremely detailed and he kindly answered a query we had post the appointment very promptly. We would certainly recommend Dr Hunt to any dog owners who are struggling with managing pain in their dogs.

Our little dog has lots of problems including arthritis in her back legs. We went to Pet Pain Relief on the advice of our vet. Dr James Hunt was very good he found all her problems, she is very shy and nervous but he put her at ease and she even had acupuncture for her back. Well worth the visit
